Verity Kemp
Director, healthplanning ltd
Verity Kemp is an independent health planning and policy consultant. She joined the NHS as a graduate trainee in 1976 and held many senior posts at hospital and regional levels, before setting up her own consultancy, healthplanning ltd, specialising in strategic planning and organisational development.
She has particular expertise in undertaking policy implementation, functional reviews, service reconfiguration and facilitation. Her main interests are in the fields of healthcare, emergency preparedness and business continuity.
Inthe past three years, major assignments have included:
- Leading the introduction and development of the Strategic Leadership in a Crisis programme sponsored by DH for the NHS in England
- Delivery of the Strategic Leadership in a Crisis training for NHS system leaders (working with Rob Ellett)
- Project managing the review of the NHS Emergency Planning Guidance for the care of burn injured patients for the National Network for Burn Care
- Working with the Royal College of Psychiatrists to research the effects of emergencies on first responders and to develop practical support materials
- Project managing the review of the NHS Emargency Planning Guidance for the Department of Health, and subsequent consultation including underpinning guidance on care of:
- critically ill patients
- children
- blast injured patients
- incidents involving radioactivity including ambulance services guidance
- psychosocial care
- evacuation and shelter
- Medical Emergency Response Incident Teams
- Project management support to the Pandemic Influenza planning team on specific guidance for ambulance services and control of infection for ambulance services
- Project management support and provision of technical author skills to the NHS resillience project
- Technical author for the British Standards Institution for its Publicly Available Specification on healthcare resilience (PAS 2015) published October 2010
- Technical author for NHS Estates for Health Building Note 07a - primary care resilience due for publication in Autumn 2010
- Facilitating a Welsh Assembly Government sponsored round table conference on the topic of the age range of NHS Specialist CAMHS in Wales and transition of adolescents between specialist mental health services for children and adolescents and mental health services for adults
- Project manager and contributing author to the NATO Joint Medical Committee guidance on the psychosocial care of people affected by disasters and major incidents
- Providing consultancy input for Oxford Policy Management to advise the Ministry of Labour, Health & Social Affairs of the Government of Georgia on creating an intelligence function to support and guide primary care health policy.
From April 2001 to Autumn 2009, on behalf of the NHS Confederation, Verity has facilitated their successful confidential forums for Chairs of Acute and Foundation Trusts and for Primary Care Trusts.
Verity is an Associate of the Welsh Institute of Health & Social Care of the University of Glamorgan.
Verity works with a number of other consultants, depending on the size and nature of the projects. She particularly enjoys opportunities to work with Rob Ellet of RDE 1308 Ltd, Peter Molyneux of Common Cause Consulting, Brian Mackness of Fairfield Consulting and Sharon Gage of SRG Project Management.
